Central Europe 2003, the preparation

During the winter and the spring of this year we realised we had to go east this year. Last year we went to the North Cape and the year before to the southern point of Europe, Gibraltar. We often visit countries to the west, like Scotland and we visited Ireland last december, so this time we had three options: going east, northeast or southeast. Well, this is our choice: to the east, but a bit southwards: via southern Poland through Slovakia to Hungary and back through Austria and the Czech Republic.
We always make many plans before we start on a trip, but we also like to keep our freedom, so all our plans are just plans: they can change any minute. We haven't arranged anything yet, except for a hotel on the first night and we are travelling with our own car, so we have all the freedom we could want.
The planned itinerary:
In short, we have planned to visit the south of Poland first (for the first night we have booked a cheap hotel (€ 30 for a room) in Wroclaw, then via Krakow to Zakopane in the High Tatra. From there we will slowly travel into Slovakia where there are some nice spots to visit, like the Slovakian Paradise. Most of the time we think to spend in Hungary: first going southwards on the eastern site of the country and travelling northwards again on the western site (also visiting lake Balaton, of course). If we still have any time left, we would like to spend some time in Austria (with a trip to Vienna, of course) and in the Czech Republic (visiting Prague). Maybe we have even time left to visit Dresden on our way home.
Well, we have so many plans and we have all sorts of travel guides with us, so we will see where this journey takes us. Maybe we won't see all things we have planned to see, but that will be only because we have others things to see and do that are as much interesting or even more. Whatever will happen, we will try to make it a pleasant journey.
Follow our travels:
Thanks to our new laptop and the mobile phone (and many hours trying to find out how to connect to the internet) we will be able to make a start with our travelogues while we are travelling and every few (2 or 3) days we will put our stories on the website. Maybe now and then we will add a small picture but you will have to wait for the larger ones until we come back. The internet connection is very slow (only 14K4, where a normal modem is already 56K6), and we don't want to get our phone bill too high.
For you all:
We would like to wish all of you a very pleasant summer and, hopefully, a very nice holiday, wherever your trip is taking you to.
