Dried up river in Leonidio
Leonidio is located between 2 mountain ranges. The valley was also called the Garden of Dionysus in ancient times because of its fertile soil. Dionysus is, among other things, the god of wine and therefore also of grapes. The Dafnon river should flow through the village, but not today, the bed is completely dry and the thickets that have been growing show that this has been the case for some time.
A sign at the entrance of the village indicates that Tsakonian is also spoken here, an almost extinct language or dialect.
