We also have a clickable castle map of Scotland where you can see which castles we visited!
Braemar Castle Braemar CastleCastle Braemar has been build in 1628 by the Earl of Mar, on the remains of an older fortress. John Farquharson of Inverey burned down the castle in 1689. Ater the Jacobite uprising in 1745 the government purchased it and rebuild it into a fortified castle. Later in the 18th century it was rebuild again into a L-plan Baronial castle, suitable for habitation. The castle looks fairly small, but is quite large inside, much bigger than we expected. The castle has been renovated over the last few years and is only opened between April and October.
