Fraser Castle

There are many, many castles in Scotland, according to some sources 3,000!
For a list of over 300 castles, click here.
We also have a clickable castle map of Scotland where you can see which castles we visited!
One of the grandest Castles of Mar was begun in 1575 by the 6th laird, Michael Fraser, and incorporates an earlier building. The castle was completed in 1636 and was the masterpiece of two great families of master masons, Bell and Leiper. Castle Fraser belongs to the same period as two neighbouring castles, Crathes and Craigievar.
Evidence suggests that before the castle was built, the site was occupied by a plain rectangular tower house not unlike the old tower house at Drum Castle.
Fraser CastleA very impressive castle; it took us hours to see all of the interior with all its authentically furnished rooms. Unfortunately, we didn't take more pictures on this visit, so you have to be patient until our next visit.
