Inverlochy Castle (het oude kasteel)

Near Fort William are two castles with the name Inverlochy Castle. The new one was build after the old one had become a ruin and is a few kilometers away. The new castle is now a hotel and the old one is still a ruin. The ruin dates back to the 13th century and has a simple plan: a walled sqaure with four towers on the corners. The walls are still standing but not all the towers.

This is one of the few castles that hasn't been altered much since the 13th century and gives a good idea how castles looked in that time. It is simple but very efficient.
