Moniack Castle

There are many, many castles in Scotland, according to some sources 3,000!
For a list of over 300 castles, click here.
We also have a clickable castle map of Scotland where you can see which castles we visited!
Moniack Castle Moniack CastleA castle that doesn't really look like a castle; it is more a country house. Since 1979 it is a winery where they make and sell wines, liquors, jams, jellies and sauces. We discovered it is a 16th century castle, but nothing about the history of it.
Their wines are made from anything but grapes, for example from cherries, plum, elderflower, meadowsweet and birch. They also produce liquors based on sloe, strawberries and peppermint. The winery is free to visit all year from Monday to Saturday.
We found some websites concerning Moniack, but they are only about the products they sell, nothing about the history of it.
